Take 5 steps to wellbeing

Take 5 steps to wellbeing

Most of us know when we are mentally and physically well, but sometimes we need a little extra support to keep well.

There are five simple steps to help maintain and improve your wellbeing. Try to build these into your daily life – think of them as your ‘five a day’ for wellbeing.

Connect

Connect with the people around you: family, friends, colleagues and neighbours at home, work, school or in your local community. Think of these relationships as the cornerstones of your life and spend time developing them. Building these connections will support and enrich you every day.

Be active

Go for a walk or run, cycle, play a game, garden or dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity that you enjoy; one that suits your level of mobility and fitness.

Take notice

Be observant, look for something beautiful or remark on something unusual. Savour the moment, whether you are on a bus or in a taxi, eating lunch or talking to friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.

Keep learning

Don’t be afraid to try something new, rediscover an old hobby or sign up for a course. Take on a different responsibility, fix a bike, learn to play an instrument or how to cook your favourite food. Set a challenge you will enjoy. Learning new things will make you more confident, as well as being fun to do.

Give

Do something nice for a friend or stranger, thank someone, smile, volunteer your time or consider joining a community group. Look out as well as in. Seeing yourself and your happiness linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and will create connections with the people around you.

Self love is must important . Why don't you give this valuable thing to yourself which you give to people for free. I have felt that when you love yourself, you become powerful, optimistic, confident, you are enough for yourself if you love yourself.

Self-love is the greatest love. Self-love definitions differ from persons to persons. Self-love is fully accepting who you are with your flaws and shortcomings.  One of the greatest responsibilities we have is to love ourselves and to know that we are enough! How can you expect to give love to others if you can’t give love to yourself? There is a great saying “Before loving someone learn to love yourself".

It's important to practice self-love and self-care. Remember to treat yourself with kindness, compassion, and respect. Take time to do things that make you happy and prioritize your mental, emotional, and physical well-being. You deserve to love and care for yourself just as much as you do for others.

Setting boundaries is essential. .Boundaries define acceptable and unacceptable behavior, helping to establish a sense of autonomy, fairness, and trust between individuals.Similarly, personal boundaries are the limits we set for ourselves that allow us to maintain physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional health. Both relational and personal boundaries are essential for supporting healthy, fulfilling lives and fostering growth and self-esteem.

Why Setting Boundaries Is Important

Sometimes it becomes necessary to set boundaries because some people, knowingly or unknowingly, want to drain your energy and harm you by staying close to you.

Relationship boundaries outline the primary foundation for how you want others to treat you

Benefits of setting healthy boundaries include:

  • When we set boundaries, it prompts us to reflect on our needs and desires, which enhances our self-awareness. 6 Steps to Set Healthy Boundaries

  • Learn to say no- You should know how to say no.  We should not get carried away by emotions and cause ourselves trouble for others.  If you feel that you don't have time, you can't do it, or you don't want to do it, then you should know how to say no.  Prioritize yourself first.

1. Be clear and directWhen saying "no," be straightforward and avoid ambiguity. Clearly state your decision without beating around the bush.

2. Use assertive language: Use confident and assertive language when expressing your boundaries. This will help convey your message effectively.

3Be Respectful While setting boundaries, it's important to be respectful towards others. You can express your needs without being rude or dismissive.

4. Practice saying "no": Role-play different scenarios where you need to say "no" and practice your response. This can help you feel more comfortable and confident in asserting your boundaries.

5. Prioritize self-care: Remember that setting boundaries is crucial for your emotional well-being. Prioritize self-care and don't be afraid to put yourself first when necessary.

6. Offer alternatives if possible: If you're unable to fulfill a request, try offering alternatives or suggesting someone else who might be able to help. This shows that you're still willing to assist in some way.
  • Know about discomfort-If you are feeling uncomfortable then you should talk to the other person about why you are feeling like this.
Boundaries are key for emotional well-being. When we set them, we protect our mental health and create comfort. Discomfort can happen when boundaries are crossed or when we don't assert our needs. It's important to communicate limits to others for healthier relationships. Setting boundaries is self-care and ensures our happiness.
  • Take out some time for yourself
Understanding why each boundary is essential to you and enhancing your emotional well-being is critical to successfully introducing and setting limits.
You can take some time to investigate your psychology. Often, people have experiences that make them feel uneasy, but they don't know why. Spending time to explore what is happening to you is the first step toward creating good boundaries in any situation.Taking care of your own needs and well-being allows you to show up fully in other areas of your life. It's like the oxygen mask analogy on an airplane - you have to put on your own mask before helping others. Remember to give yourself permission to say no and set boundaries when needed. You deserve to prioritize yourself! 😊
  • Be straightforward- being straightforward means being clear, honest, and direct in your communication. It's about expressing your thoughts and needs without beating around the bush. By being straightforward, you can effectively communicate your boundaries and ensure that your needs are respected. It's all about being upfront and honest.

Use a calm and polite tone- Keep your own anger in check. Don’t try to set boundaries in the middle of an argument. You want your message to be heard. Yelling, sarcasm, or a condescending tone all put others on the defensive and distract from the real issues.

Remember, learning to set boundaries takes time and practice. Don't be too hard on yourself if it feels challenging at first. You're doing great! 😊👍
